How to Make Keto Ranch Dressing

Being from the South, I grew up putting Ranch Dressing on everything. It’s just the way we do things! Unfortunately, most Ranch Dressings on the market today have sugar added, or things like maltodextrin. And we don’t want those things in our diet.

Making Ranch Dressing at home is so easy, though, you don’t have to go without it on Keto. There aren’t any crazy ingredients, either. In fact, you probably already have everything you need in your kitchen right now.

Ingredients and Notes


You can use the full fat stuff you get at the store, or you could make your own using our Easy Homemade Keto Mayo recipe. After all, the point of making your own dressing is being able to control what all goes into it, right? I say make it from scratch using your own homemade mayo. You’ll be glad you did.

Easy Homemade Keto Mayo Recipe

Mayonnaise is a Keto Kitchen staple. Making your own Mayo is the only way to make sure there are no unwanted carbs in it. It’s also really easy and tasty!

Sour Cream:

Just use the full fat stuff. I’ve heard rumors there are Sour Cream brands out there that have some carbs, so check the label and make sure you don’t get those kinds.

Dried herbs:

Dill, Parsley, and Thyme. Don’t use the fresh stuff here. Use dried. The dressing is so wet already that it will reconstitute these herbs. You’ll want them chopped pretty small, but there’s no need to use the powdered versions of these. I used the powdered Thyme once and it mostly just turned the dressing green. It was still tasty, but it was weird. Ranch isn’t supposed to be green.

Garlic Powder

Garlic Powder is a relatively potent ingredient for the small quantity you need in most recipes. That's a good thing on Keto, because it does bring more carbs to the recipe than any other herb or spice.

There is no substitute for the savory flavor that garlic provides, though. Just make sure to track what you use with MyFitnessPal or similar so you stay within your macro goals.

Be sure and note the difference between Fine Garlic Powder, Granulated Garlic and Garlic Powder. They're interchangeable in most recipes, but they have different textures that could effect the final dish.


Onion Powder:

Onion Powder brings a lot of flavor to the party in just about every recipe. In fact, you often want to make sure not to overuse onion powder. With 1 net carb per tablespoon, it’s a lot of bang for the buck.

Also make sure to note the difference between Onion Powder and Fine Onion Powder. It’s mostly a texture thing. Onion Powder works well in Ranch recipes where the herbs tend to be more coarse, where Fine Onion Powder (which is almost like talk), is better for broths or recipes where you prefer a smooth mouth feel.

Pink Himalayan Sea Salt

Pink Himalayan Sea salt has a number of reported health benefits, so we use it over other salts almost exclusively. 

Specifically important to Keto, pink himalayan salt is reported to help balance electrolytes, increase hydration, prevent muscle cramps, assists in proper metabolism function, among other things.

If you’re going to have salt anyway, you might as well up the nutritional ante with Pink Himalayan Sea Salt.


I use Apple Cider Vinegar in this recipe to add acidity, but you can change that up a little. Lemon and Lime juice both work well to balance the richness of the dressing and give it a little zip. I just use Apple Cider Vinegar because of the health benefits and we’re always looking for ways to get more of the stuff into our diets without having to actually drink it.

Heavy Whipping Cream:

This is purely a consistency ingredient. Add less if you want your Ranch to be a thicker “dip”. Add more, if you want it nice and pourable for a salad or a nice refreshing summer drink. I’m just kidding. Don’t drink it…. or, I mean, you could if you want. Especially if someone dares you….

Keto Jack Black Pepper Wings Recipe

Chicken wings named for the whiskey & spice that give them their attitude. These bad boys don’t need sauce. Great low carb snack, appetizer or meal!


Simply put all your ingredients into a bowl and whisk them together until it’s all thoroughly combined. Nice and easy, right?

NOTE: Add your Heavy Whipping Cream last. That way, you have more control over the consistency of your final product. Sometimes you may not need as much because your sour cream may have a little more liquid in it, there may be more moisture in the air, or the local Gnomes may just sprinkle extra water in your food the day you’re making this dressing. Who knows? It just always seems to be a little different, so use the heavy cream accordingly.
